TPC's Breif Proposal

                         (Terichmir paragliding club. TPC)
Chitral is considered as “the heaven for Para gliders” by many international pilots who visit the region every year to enjoy the sport. The beautiful mountain’s ranges of Hindukush and Hinduraj offer tremendous launching points for the sport. The clean natural environment and snow capped peaks with a peaceful environment provides lovely landscape for the sport.
In recent years some of the energetic youth have taken an unusual adventurous step by learning Paragliding, a sport very challenging in view of the locals. In this learning process we got contribution from many foreign cross country pilots such as Brad Sander from USA, Mukrim from Canada, Rob and Gray from Newzeland etc.
At the beginning of the year 2009 we established club, TPC after realizing the immense need of a full-fledged forum for the Promotion of this sport in Chitral.

Achievements and participations

Paragliding Exercise Qaqlasht
1. The pilots of TPC have the honor to participate in Sawat Peace Mission, to demonstrate their skills just after the terrorist had been defeated by Pak Army.

2. Kalam Peace Festival.

3. Shandur Polo Festival.

4. Qaqlasht Festival.

Challenges and problems

1. Unavailability of Equipments related to this sport.
Chitral is situated in the extreme north of Pakistan. It is the only district of Pakistan which remains cutt off from the rest of the country for six months, due to heavy snow fall on Lawary pass. It’s the most backward district of Pakistan. The equipments related to the sport are not available here. We use the low stand second hand wings which has been bought in very low amount or donated to the club.

2. Non-availability of Para gliding school.

There are few flying clubs in Islamabad. They hire students on a very high fee. For a youth belonging to Chitral it is impossible to bear the expenses. Therefore, most of the youth who have the eagerness to learn and excel in this sport it becomes a dream.

Our Needs

1. Equipments

      a. Wings (new or used)

      b. Harnesses

      c. Altimeter

Cross country Pilot giving training to HIKAP Pilot
      d. Wind meter

       e. GPS

2. Training School

      a. Instructors

      b. Visiting Pilots

      c. Volunteers

      d. Documents (Books, Magazines etc)

3. Exposure Trips

      a. Invitation of the club to various events organizes on a national and international level

      b. Trips to other Training School( National, International)

4. Collaboration

      a. The team needs recognition and support in national and international level from highly recognized   paragliding associations.

TPC's Recommendations

TPC initiative in this regard has been admirable but due to lack of financial resources, Equipments and trainers the organization could not meet the objectives of TPC in near future.

We admire all those hands that show their willingness to help and strengthen this body to eradicate poverty, promote tourism and eventually flourish paragliding in Chitral.

We thank you for all kind of support. Please Note this contact information for your support!

SWAT Peace Mission

It was 6 january 2010. We were informed that there is a invitation for PG pilots of Chitral to participate in peace mission in Swat. We decided, after a meeting, to go to Swat and fly there. We reached lower Chitral on January 9th and we practiced ground handling. In the morning of 10th January at 9am we departed from chitral. We reached Chikdara by the afternoon and there we were received by Pak army’s men ( Jawan). By 10pm the night we reached Khowzakhela, Swat. It was darkness of the night we didn’t see any thing there. It was blackout there due to no electricity. We spent a night in army station. Early the next day we were awakened by the din of solder’s movement.

“It is safe and peace all around here; you can fly any where here. Our Jawan are alert on every peek of the mountains” said the brigadier, a tall handsome bearing a graceful personality.

We started our practice flight near the slope, about five hundred feets high. The event was delayed day by day. During this interval we did practice from many spots.

Eventually we were ready to take off from Binaibaba, 8742 feet high, the strong hold of Muslim Khan; leader of Taliban before the Pak army had took over.

The event was scheduled to 18th of Janury 2010. It was a very special day. The passing out parade of the special police force was in schedule. High official guests including the social and political leaders of the area were seated.

We trekked to a height of 9000 feet, where we found a spot to take off. It was short after the horrible war; this area was still in critical situation. The horrible scene was an insight to the terrorists’ deeds.

We flew from the height and after duration of 34 minutes we landed the ground. Infect it was a hard time but we proved that SWAT is now as peaceful as other places which have yet not been hit by terrorism.
